First, the honest scope
"Server monitoring" means two different things, and it is worth separating them before you download anything.
- Resource monitoring - CPU, RAM, disk, services, SNMP, event logs. That is what PRTG, Zabbix, SolarWinds and Datadog do. UpWatchr does not do this.
- Availability monitoring - is the server answering, is it returning the right status code, is it still fast. That is what UpWatchr does, over HTTP and HTTPS.
If you need CPU graphs, stop here and use one of the agents above. If what you actually want is to know the moment a box, site, API or admin panel stops responding - without signing up for anything - read on.
Why run the monitor on your own PC
Hosted monitors check from the outside, which is right for one production website and wrong for almost everything else a developer or sysadmin looks after. Their probes cannot reach a staging box on your LAN, a service on localhost, a homelab dashboard, or anything behind the VPN. UpWatchr runs on your Windows machine, so it sees exactly what you see.
The trade is straightforward and worth stating plainly: UpWatchr only monitors while your PC is on. For a public site that must be watched at 4am, keep a hosted monitor. For the twenty other things you care about during the working day, an external service is the wrong shape - and usually meters you for the privilege.

Alerts that reach you where you already are
Every monitor can alert by Windows toast, email, webhook, Telegram, or by launching a local application - so a failing health check can trigger a script as easily as it pings your phone. There is also an optional status page served on 127.0.0.1: your whole watchlist in a browser tab, live-refreshing, optionally password-protected, and never exposed beyond your machine.
Common questions
Does UpWatchr monitor CPU, memory or disk?
No. It monitors whether an HTTP or HTTPS endpoint responds, how fast, and with which status code. For resource metrics you want an agent-based tool such as Zabbix or PRTG - the two are complementary, not competing.
Can it monitor a Windows Server machine?
It can monitor anything that machine serves over HTTP - IIS sites, APIs, dashboards, health endpoints. It does not install an agent on the server or read its performance counters.
Is it really free?
Yes - free forever, no tiers, no trial countdown, no account. There is no server infrastructure to fund, which is exactly why the hosted services charge and this does not.
How many things can I watch?
As many as you like, each on its own interval. There is no monitor cap, because there is no plan to upsell you to.
